Name: Ophelia Pronunciation: Oh-fee-lia Nickname: Fi Species: Witch? (Magical Girl in actuality. It's sort of a witch lol.) Age: 20 Love: None, obviously. (This is a lie. Her and Alabaster have a thing.) Crush: None... Sexuality: Demi-pansexual Family: Parents moved out of Varatia when she was a young teen and she has no siblings. Offspring: No. Birthplace: Towards the inner of Varatia, although not the terribly corrupted areas. Current Residence: Wandering. Has a home in one of the communities but likes to get out. Faction: Outlander (She has no intention of leaving Varatia, however.) Abilities: Fire magics, always in the same bright blue shade as her tail; she can do some small little flashy illusions, but prefers to blast people with her fire instead of distracting with party tricks. Personality: Task-orientated, detailed, sarcastic, slightly anxious, loyal, protective, headstrong
Name: Alabaster Pronunciation: Al-ah-bast-er Nickname: Alah Species: Witch Age: 20 Love: I don't have time for that, c'mon. Crush: Nah. (It's totally Ophelia.) Sexuality: Heterosexual Family: They've gone, apparently. Offspring: No. Birthplace: Towards the inner of Varatia, although not the terribly corrupted areas. Current Residence: Wandering. Faction: Outlander Abilities: Water magic, although he's best at using it to create illusions or flashy tricks. He's really quite a talented magician, but isn't overly fond of showing off his true power, just entertaining people with his parlor magic. Personality: Easygoing, laid-back, sarcastic, friendly, schmoozy, very self-controlled, laughs easily
Name: Hiqe Bellarix Pronunciation: Heek Nickname: N/A (Besides cutesy shit from Durgan.) Species: Aberrant Age: 22 Love: Durgan Sexuality: Heterosexual Family: Her mother died when she was born, and her father stuck around to raise her and take care of her. She has no siblings and loves her father, but moved out of the inner parts of the forest when she was old enough to make her own life elsewhere. She still visits him frequently. Offspring: Nope Birthplace: Embrum Woods (deeper part, although not actual Deep Embrum Woods) Current Residence: Her shop in Sanguine Valley Faction: Aberrant Abilities: Time manipulation, included but not limited to: slowing down time, speeding it up, replaying memories or scenes from the past, sending others through time, etc. Personality: Bubbly, friendly, outgoing, cheerful, chatterbox, excitable, loving, caring, swears like a sailor Other: Although Hiqe is actually an Aberrant, her appearance is normal enough to allow her to pass as a normal citizen. She bears no ill will towards any other factions, even those that hunt the Aberrants, since she has never had any problems with them. Her shop is an open and safe space that any denizens of Varatia are welcome to enter, and she tries her best to extend a cheerful attitude towards any customers that drop by.
Name: Vrun Ilena Pronunciation: Phoenetic Nickname: N/A Gender: Female Age: 18 Birthdate: July 12th Family: On the Island (Away from Varatia) Current Residence: Sanguine Valley (Travels frequently) Personality: Slightly detached, frustrated, mildly grumpy, hard-headed, stubborn, non-confrontational Status: Single (Mostly Uninterested) Orientation: Bisexual Love: None Abilities: Foresight. Also a very talented singer. Faction: Ranger Other: A very strong swimmer. Considers herself a pacifist, but is unsure of whether she would resort to violence or not should the situation call for it.
From a young age, Vrun was destined to be the next priestess of her island nation. A secluded island far out to sea, distant from any large mainland, all Vrun's life consisted of her preparing to be the next priestess. She accepted her responsibility with a grain of salt, not believing entirely in the deity that she would be serving. Regardless, she did her duties well, serving and dedicating her time to the temple. She grew skeptical of her duties, however, performing them only perfunctorily and so as to keep her island and it's residents happy and safe.
At her eighteenth birthday, she was set to fully accept the blessings of the temple and become their full-time priestess. To Vrun's utmost astonishment, the deity that she had refused to believe in appeared to her at the ceremony and blessed her with the ability of foresight before withdrawing, leaving her people stunned and in awe of their new priestess. They saw her as more than just a mortal being; no previous priest or priestess had ever been personally blessed by the deity. They began to hail her as another minor deity, which she believed was utter crap. Becoming increasingly hounded by her own people, and wracked frequently by confusing visions of what might be, Vrun decided to escape while she could. She made her break into the ocean only weeks after the arrival of her gift, having foreseen a boat passing by within miles of the ocean. She swam out and was picked up by the fishing vessel, where she eventually made her way to Varatia.
Her island is still after her, because they want their priestess and minor deity back, but as they are a mostly peaceful nation, their attempts have been unsuccessful thus so far. However, she feels rather safe in Varatia due to the haywire magic, as she reasons her island won't be after her in such a dangerous place. Regardless, she joined the Rangers as soon as she heard about them, as she would be able to continually travel and move with them and therefore avoid staying in one place for too long. It also satisfies her curious nature, so while she isn't necessarily super gung-ho and outgoing about exploring untraveled land, she's happy to be seeing new sights and staying under the radar at large.
Her island nation is related to that of Uvoria, the lady in Ryo's story. However, Uvoria's nation is a warrior nation grounded music, whereas Vrun's nation is peaceful and centered around growth and cultivation with music. Her island rarely enlists the help of their larger sister island, and only in dire situations or threat of attack, which is rare due to their remote location. Their cultures are heavily grounded in music; nearly all of Vrun's priestess duties involved singing or music of some kind, although her foresight is completely unrelated to any abilities that she has regarding singing.
Name: Llarana Moesta Pronunciation: Lah-ran-ah Mo-es-tah Nicknames: Lana, Ranna Gender: Female Age: 20 Birthdate: August 9th Family: Distanced Current Residence: Mocha City Café, Sanguine Valley Faction: Kindred Personality: Lana is your typical service industry worker; prompt and to the point with her business, but always willing to chat and generally very friendly with her clientele. She enjoys a good conversation, even though she sometimes comes off a bit airheaded and simple. In reality, she's very smart and is extremely intelligent in regards to a lot of math and science areas. Her job at the café is just something to help her earn money while she studies at a local school. Despite being incredibly smart, she's learned that spouting technical jargon will only alienate you, and as such, her carefree personality is almost a bit of a front. She genuinely is pretty friendly, but sometimes exaggerates a bit to get people to like her. Status: Single Love: None Abilities: Her specialty in science is chemistry, and she has a natural knack for knowing combinations of chemicals and organic materials. She also has the odd ability of being able to tell what constitutes the chemical makeup of any substance she can taste. For example, if she were to eat table salt, she could tell you that it is composed of sodium and chloride atoms, and so on and so forth.
Name: Rouvor Rowlin Pronunciation: Rue-vohr Row-lyn Nickname: Rou / Rue Gender: Male Age: Unknown Birthdate: Unknown Family: Unknown Current Residence: Wandering Deep Embrum Woods Faction: Aberrant Personality: Rouvor lives in a state of constant confusion. He has no memory of where he came from, who he really is, or how he got to where he is. His memory loss puzzles him, and while he is a curious being he's also terribly lonely, as he cannot remember anyone important in his life. He's a little desolate because of this, but is generally amicable enough with strangers and isn't a hostile person. He's actually more the sort to stop and help a stranger purely out of strength of character, although most others seem to avoid him, sensing something is off about the young man. Status: Single Orientation: ? Love: None Abilities: Able to absorb the injuries and pain of others into his own body through physical contact. He is also apparently immortal, except for once a month on the night of the new moon, wherein he dies and wakes up the next night with no memories. Other: It's a mystery. eue
Name: Mikure Fallorn Pronunciation: Miku-rae Fall-orn Nickname: Miku Gender: Male Age: 18 Birthdate: July 25th Family: Gone Current Residence: Wandering Faction: Ranger Personality: Prone to bouts of fever or sickness, Miku is a rather wary and cautious individual. He doesn't like to exert himself in the fear that he'll fall sick again, which can often debilitate him for days. While he isn't necessarily hostile, he doesn't care for strangers or making new friends; he prefers to just go about his business quietly. He hopes that eventually he'll have full control over his body, but there's always that lingering fear of losing control or falling sick. Despite the fact that his body often fails him, he still has a sense of adventure and enjoys exploring. He likes nature and seeing new sights, but at his own pace. Status: Single Orientation: Bisexual Love: None Abilities: Miku is capable of manipulating fire and magma, although with the magma he cannot just produce it out of nowhere; it must already be present for him to be able to manipulate it. However, he can breathe flames from his mouth. Despite this, he lacks control over most of his fire-related abilities, and when he is emotionally distressed he is prone to minor fire explosions and losing control. Other: Miku has magma running through his veins instead of blood, a liquid fire that is a somewhat thicker substance that clots easily into stone-like spots. He is prone to fever if he overexerts himself, as his body literally overheats. Water can be dangerous for him, because if he runs too cool then his blood will literally cool and solidify, thus petrifying him until his temperature can be brought up again. Although he could technically be classified as an Aberrant, he simply tells people he has a bad immune system and is illness-prone.
Name: Anzu Vikashev Pronunciation: An-zu Vee-kash-ev Nickname: Az, Zu Gender: Female Age: Indeterminate Birthdate: Unremembered Current Residence: About Personality: Bitter, remorseful, cool, detached, obsessed, revengeful, intelligent, sardonic Orientation: Pansexual Status: Single Love: None Faction: Ranger Other: The third doll in a set of five matryoshka. There is a medium-sized matryoshka doll that bears Anzu's likeness; when someone other than herself is in possession of it, they are able to bend her to their whim and call her back into her little prison as they wish. Because of this, she keeps the doll on herself at all times and is very guarded about even showing it to others.
Anzu is a matryoshka, a Russian nesting doll. She and her other four sisters were created by a lonely woodcarver with no children or wife of his own to keep himself company, and much to his surprise the next morning he awoke to five sleeping girls in his workroom, each in the image of their respective nesting doll. Anzu was the middle child, not the smallest nor the largest, and neither the weakest nor the strongest. She was content to be the middle daughter of the carver, living out a simple life with her sisters and their father, until a strange fire ripped their lives apart.
The local townspeople had, of course, learned about the miraculous matryoshka of the woodcarver, and had accepted the five girls as a part of their town. Travelers, however, found this to be quite a spectacle. A dark stranger, passing through Anzu's little Russian village, overheard the magical story of the woodcarver and his daughters, and wished to see it for himself. To his surprise, the townspeople's gossip was true, and as he watched the family in secret over a few weeks, a yearning grew in his heart. He sought to have the five sisters for himself, and as the night of no moon arrived, he did his terrible deed and set their house alight, trapping the woodcarver inside to burn to death. The five sisters, discombobulated with terror and pain, fled into the night, each their own separate way. Two of them were quickly snatched up by the dark traveler, while the other three ran for their lives.
The traveler now hunts the other missing three dolls from his collection, for while he owns their matryoshka, they are under his command and must bend to his whims. His motives still remain unclear to Anzu, who is still reeling after the death of her father and the separation from her sisters, but a cold fire is slowly growing in her heart as she realizes the cruelty of people and the harsh reality of the world. She seeks to win back her sisters' freedoms and take down the stranger that destroyed her life.
The Rangers in Varatia offered her the ability to explore and to get around the country, which she gladly accepted; it would allow her to move about at will without fear of retribution. However, the Soul Legion has something of a dispute with her, as she technically shouldn't exist. Why they are after her, she doesn't know, but in reality it is because the woodcarver imparted dying souls into his matryoshka dolls to breathe life into them. Her soul should belong in the afterlife, but she is unaware of her true origins, and as such is on the run from any Soul Legion members she meets.
Name: Breinni Rona Pronunciation: Bree-enni Row-nah Nickname: Bree Gender: Female Age: 17 Birthdate: January 3rd Current Residence: The Arcane Library, Sanguine Valley Faction: Witches (Not related to family) Personality: Cold and withdrawn from most social interactions, Bree is uncomfortable with large crowds and dealing face-to-face with others. She prefers letters and other non-direct forms of communication and in general likes being alone. When dealing with others, she is cold and blunt and often times a lot nastier than she intends. This stems partially from her prickly attitude, but also her social ineptitude. Status: Single Orientation: Heterosexual Abilities: Is a well learned sorceress, although she certainly isn't the cream of the crop. She is talented at what she does, but through years of practice, and her magic is based on arcane symbols and circles. Other: Bree is obsessed with the idea of finding sources of unlimited power, and derived from this, the idea of achieving immortality. She wants to discover a well of replenishable energy so that she can fuel her own selfish magical experiments, although this has yet to be achieved even within the magical community.
Name: Yimigi Irshaz Pronunciation: Yim-ee-gee Ear-shaz Nicknames: Yim, Imi Gender: Male Birthdate: February 29th Age: 20 Current Residence: His bakery, Sangine Valley Personality: An outwardly friendly and easygoing young man, Yim makes shady backdoor deals and strange confections at his bakery. When he isn't the cute and chatty bakery owner, he's quietly plotting how to best achieve his next deal or make new items for sale. Status: Single Love: None Abilities: Fire manipulation, which is useful for his baking and confectionery; however, when irritated or not paying attention, his back paws light on fire and wisps of fire follow him around. Notable Qualities: Yim's hair has one particular curl that never goes away; no matter how hard he tries to straighten it out, it always just curls back up. He hates it, while most others find it endearing. He also has heterochromonia, with one yellow eye and one green.
Yim is a rather dangerous young man who hides his particular skill set behind a smiling face and charming, easygoing demeanor. In reality, he was raised to be a Reaper, with plenty of combat experience and an arsenal of abilities to hunt down and kill Aberrants or any other dangers to Varatia. However, when he was eighteen he was unable to kill the Aberrant target he had been given, and the creature managed to escape. The Reapers in charge were displeased with his performance, and he was temporarily taken off of the front lines, instead made to work in the kitchens at their headquarters as punishment.
In the kitchens he managed to develop a love for food, though, and quickly realized his talent for baking in particular. After several months had passed and he was taken off of his lower status, Yim made his decision. With the changing political climate in the Reapers faction causing him great ire (he was no lover of Malvye and disapproved of her father's intent to pass the reigns on to her), he simply chose to instead defect and leave the faction. With no preamble, he went out one day to complete a mission and never returned.
Yim wandered to Sanguine Valley and the prospering cities that resided there. With the money he had earned with the Reapers he bought himself a little dump of a place and spent the next several months fixing it up and transforming the front into a fully functional bakery. The back he turned into a small, sparse living quarters, but he lives now for his work and is okay with the arrangement. While he certainly isn't in hiding, he also tries to keep his head relatively low, but old Reaper connections never truly go away - he welcomes back-door deals with some interesting individuals and isn't afraid to get his paws dirty if he has to.
Name: Calendis Pronunciation: Cah-len-dis Nickname: Calends, Calen, Callie, Cal Gender: Female Age: 17 Birthdate: July 20th Family: Deceased Current Residence: Travelling, spreading her word (mostly Embrum Woods / Deep Woods) Personality: Cold and distanced with a holier-than-thou attitude, Calends is really not the nicest lady. She believes she's some sort of god, after all, and all other mortals are beneath her, so she usually treats them as such. Sarcastic, but quick to anger and prickly regarding her honor, she's mostly a nasty, overzealous girl who's dangerous because of her own fanatical ideas. Status: Single Orientation: Pansexual Love: None Faction: Aberrant Abilities: Capable of spreading a pollen or spore from her fur, Calends spreads slow decay and destruction in her path. Her spores cause a sickness in the lungs, a cough that starts of innocently enough but eventually spreads to the rest of the body, causing a slow paralysis that eventually ends in the victim's body erupting into spores.
Calendis emerged from the Deep Embrum Woods when she was a young girl, her parents having died shortly before. Alone, scared and unable to care for herself, she wandered to the nearest village, a place on the edge of the Sanguine Valley, and was taken in by a kind elderly couple. It was a few months after Calends had arrived that they realized something was... off about their adopted daughter. Her bright eyes rarely seemed to blink, and she always seemed to be in excellent health, apparently immune to colds or other common ailments that other children in the village contracted. In fact, it was especially strange considering that they had all apparently caught some sort of common illness, as many children became ill around the same time.
It quickly became apparent that Calendis was not a normal child. All of the village children eventually become quite sick, bedridden with an awful, wracking cough that eventually began to produce a powdery, yellow spore-like substance. Yet even though anyone around her age become ill, Calends remained in perfect health, regardless of the fact that she had spent all of her time with the other children and should have been exposed. The village quickly became horrified as one by one, the children succumbed to their mysterious illness, hacking up quantities of yellow spores until their airways closed off and their bodies shut down. After that, they disintegrated into the same substance they coughed up, not even leaving bodies behind.
Suspicion turned to Calendis, the only child that had managed to escape their terrible fate. But she had done nothing wrong, she protested, she had just gotten lucky, hadn't she? She was immune, she was special - it wasn't her fault that the other children were stupid and got sick and died.
The village, of course, turned on her. But they found themselves also suddenly displaying symptoms of the awful disease that had claimed their children, and one by one, they all died off. Every single one, even the foster parents that had so lovingly taken Callie in; one by one, the villagers dropped and burst into spores, until no one but Calendis was left behind.
By then she had put the pieces together: clearly, she was some sort of blessed creature with immunity to whatever strange disease had taken the lives of her village. She was special; she was perfect; she was some sort of divine being that couldn't be brought down by a mere mortal illness.
So she set out to spread the word that she was a savior, a divine being come from the Dark Spot and that she was immortal, immune to illness. Death followed behind her, always trailing yellow spores, always killing in it's wake. Those that managed to survive the mysterious disease were left severely crippled, lungs filled with fluid and spores - but alive. They spread the word of the girl with death in her shadow, who carried destruction in her wake, and they warned them. Run, they whispered. Run.
Name: Asekyl Mokata Pronunciation: Ah-see-kuhl Mo-cah-tah Nickname: Ace Gender: Female Age: 20 Birthdate: August 31st Family: None Current Residence: Deep Embrum Woods Personality: Vain and conceited, Ace is a master magician, skilled in the illusions and trickery associated with her profession. However, she holds grudges and is quick to temper, making her a rather dangerous when provoked. She's distant and often frosty, and generally dislikes wasting her time on anyone but herself. Status: Single Orientation: Bisexual Love: None Faction: Reaper Abilities: A well-versed magician, talented at trickery and slight-of-hand. She is capable of producing actual illusions and manipulating what others can see. This makes her quite dangerous, as she can cause hallucinations or delusions and drive others to madness. Don't piss her off, basically; she'll induce hallucinations until the person in question is driven to suicide. Not that she's done that before...
Ace is the perfect Reaper. Raised by the faction for her entire life, her parents died when she was young hunting something out in the Embrum Woods. From there the rest of her existence was dedicated to the organization that took care of her, and she quickly developed into a star pupil with an unusual talent for illusions. It worked in her favor, however; the creatures she hunted could be distracted by a flashy illusion while she went around behind and slayed them. Not above trickery, playing dirty and getting her paws into a mess, Ace quickly was deemed one of the best Reapers of her age.
Her bloodthirsty nature was quickly put to use hunting down even the most violent of Aberrants in Varatia, as she would stop at nothing to kill them. Aberrants, to her, are absolute monstrosities that live only to cause destruction and havoc, and as such they must all be eliminated. Her desire to kill doesn't interfere with anything, even her willingness to go into the Deep Embrum Woods if she's chasing someone down there. However, these frequent expeditions to the more corrupted parts of Varatia have begun to slowly have some odd effects on her, whether Ace notices them or not. Her illusions sometimes take on a life of their own and seem a little too lifelike... but she's willfully ignoring any changes for now, unwilling to accept that she may be slowly becoming one of the things that she so eagerly hunts.
